More Than Just a Mother

This isn’t what you think it will be. This isn’t a post about how I do dishes, and maintain a household and I’m so much more than just a mother and I’m unappreciated. I feel very appreciated. I’m sitting here on the couch snuggling with my almost ONE year old, while my two year old watches Doc McStuffins and I think I’m in a really great place in my life.

Last year, when someone would ask me who I am, I would say “I’m a mother” and before that I was “a wife”. I just didn’t see it as that big of a deal. Before that I was a student. So who am I? What should I be? The options are endless right?

I’m learning more and more every day just who I am. When I first set out to be someone outside of just mom, I looked at moms around me. Some bake, other take pictures, others babysit. Those all sound really fun, and I tried my hand at all of them. I love taking pictures. I love editing pictures and really enjoy everything about photography. I guess I’m a photographer then, right? Well that’s something. Next I tried baking and cooking. That was a mess. I am definitely not either of those. Ha. Let’s just forget about that.

After that I decided to do something for me. For many years I’ve been doing things for everyone else. I spend my time doing dishes, cleaning, cooking (disastrous!) and doing laundry. I became very depressed about my life and felt like I wasn’t living a good life, and like I was just surviving. That’s not how I want to live.

What do I want in my life? Well, doodling seems fun, so I got a zendoodle book and I do that in free time. Why not?

I don’t even care that I’m a completely inexperienced doodler. Who cares? No one has ever told me I shouldn’t share my work or that I had no talent. It’s a fun way to relieve stress! 🙂

I also craft. Oh heyy silhouette cameo. Currently I’m working on a project for all the places we have lived.

I also made a fun cutting board with our last name that my husband refuses to use because it’s glass.

I’m so much more than just a mom. I hope someday my kids look at me as a happy and successful person.

Who are you? What do you do?
